ExpectedCosts publishes plain cost ranges for the services and purchases people search for every day.

What this site is

Every subject page shows a typical low-to-high price range and the sub-costs that make it up: the cheap end, the expensive end and what sits in the middle. The range is a planning aid, not a quotation. It tells you whether a quote is in the right ballpark.

What we do not do

We are not a contractor, a lender, a broker, an insurer, a law firm or a medical provider. We do not quote jobs, set rates or make credit decisions. Some links are affiliate links and we disclose them next to the link, every time.

How the ranges are built

Each range is calibrated from the size and variability of the work in that category, so a roof replacement and a haircut do not read as the same kind of number. Ranges are stored as data, so a correction is a one-line change rather than a rewrite.

How to use a range

Treat the range as the field you are playing on. Get two or three written quotes, compare them line by line, and use the range to spot a quote that is far out of line in either direction.
