United States and Canada
Expected Costs for Repairs, Services and Everyday Jobs
A planning range for what a job should cost — by subject, state, province and city. See the typical low–high figure before you ask for quotes.
What an expected cost is
An expected cost is the typical price range for a job — the low end, the high end and the midpoint most people pay. We publish one for repairs, services and everyday jobs across the United States and Canada.
Every range is a planning estimate, not a quotation. Two quotes for the same job can differ by a wide margin, so use the range as a starting point: it tells you whether a quote is reasonable and which part of the job is driving the price.
Open a subject to see its expected cost, the sub-costs that make it up and what moves the price up or down. Then narrow by state, province or city to see how local labour and demand change the figure.
This edition covers 298 subjects across 1,226 cities, 64 states and provinces, and 18 categories. Ranges are reviewed regularly, so the figures you see are the current ones for 2026.
Popular starting points: Dental Care costs, Plastic Surgery costs, Medical Care costs, Auto Repair costs. Or browse costs by category, costs by state and province, or use a cost calculator.
